I'm an award-winning design-led leader (across brand, marketing and product) with over 18 years of experience in the creative industry, the last 9 of which have been in leadership and management positions.

I have been focused on crafting digital brands and products that are clear, modern, and authentically customer-centric, with a winning combination of user-centricity, data, and emotional and psychological insights.

Ten years after founding an award-winning brand design studio responsible for launching more than 50 go-to-market campaigns and platforms, I built creative teams for Microsoft — launching their Responsible AI initiative — and Amazon — developing Amazon Go's pioneering visual barcode design systems.

With backgrounds in studio arts, business development, and nonprofit policy and outreach, I help companies find the style, confidence, clarity, and direction they need to bring more worthwhile and dynamic products to the market. I've had a real time of it building scalable design teams that can deliver holistic, fabulous, brand-driven experiences.

More background

I design experiences founded on systems, and systems built around experience — balancing design thinking with a search for desire paths. I've designed and have built design teams effective because of their obsession with the question of responsibility in product, brand, and technological design.

By the by, I've served on the board of AIGA Seattle; was the first Creative Director of Microsoft's Office of Responsible AI; designed partnership programs for Facebook's Creative Shop; played at cryptography for US Naval Intelligence; was many months happily at sea as an oceanographer for N.A.S.A.; ran the single best bookstore either of us have ever heard of; and helped found and bring to national market and rapturous press a granola company with my eventual and decidedly brilliant wife. It's been a journey.

    Life sciences

    Pipeline design for cutting-edge cancer treatments, awareness campaign design, annual reports, re-branding of the cotton swabs the entire nation was beholden to throughout the pandemic, and even a few dynamic murals.

I've helped bring more than 65 businesses to market, from consultancies to cafés, award-winning food brands to veterinary "retreats," leading identity design as well as launch strategy.
